Dear Parent / Guardian
SWINE FLU PREPARATIONS
As you are aware, the UK government has implemented a range of measures to protect individuals and to minimise the risks of a potential Swine Flu pandemic.
All schools within the Vale of Glamorgan have received advice on the arrangements to be followed.
The main emphasis will be on ensuring that good hygiene standards are maintained, being vigilant and ensuring that pupils exhibiting symptoms of illness do not attend school.
In the event of an outbreak which affects a Vale of Glamorgan school, the National Public Heath service will advise the Council, the school and parents on the measures to be taken.
The purpose of this letter is to assure parents and guardians that arrangements are in place and request your assistance. In the event of any child exhibiting symptoms, they should not be sent to school. You should, however, phone your local doctor or NHS Direct (Telephone 0845 4647) in order to obtain advice. All GP's have been briefed and will be in a position to assist.
In the meantime, please follow the advice which is now being made available on the public information networks. By being vigilant, encouraging children to exercise high standards of personal hygience (especially hand washing) we can all contribute to reducing the risks of infection.
Whilst we hope that the arrangements which have been put into place will not be necessary. I thought that it would be helpful for you to know that Headteachers and schools across the Vale of Glamorgan are prepared to play their part in seeking to reduce the risks of infection and maintain their usual high standards of care.
Your assistance is appreciated.
Yours sincerely
Bryan Jeffreys
